Plan a seashell wedding ceremony for your wedding theme

A seashell wedding ceremony can be the perfect way to decorate your ceremony site. Nothing says the seashore like seashells. You can find seashells everywhere. It is a natural look and the possibilities are endless.

A simple canopy can be constructed with four bamboo poles in the sand connected together with pieces of straight bamboo. Muslin cloth provides some cover from the sun, but allows light. Assorted real seashells are hung from the edge of the cloth on this Chuppa to create a simple look for this ceremony site, yet a unique seashell wedding ceremony.

If you add some potted ferns at the base of the bamboo poles, you will achieve a tropical look. You can also put clusters of seashells in a casual type of arrangement. This is a really easy thing to do, and a great way to add a seashell accent to your wedding ceremony. Sugar starfish are glued together by a hot glue gun and attached to a bamboo trellis like the one in the picture below. What a pretty look! You could do this yourself!

This is a simple seashell set up, but one I love and use over and over. Again, bamboo is the base which works so well in a tropical setting. It is perfect for creating this look. Two 4" poles are connected by a smaller 2" piece across the top. The trellis can be wrapped in tuille and decorated with garland of seashells (my personal favorite). Tuille can be purchased at the fabric store very inexpensively by the yard - it comes in all sorts of colors. I have also used synthetic silky organza, it is a bit more expensive, but it flows a little better in the wind and that adds a nice touch. Line the walkway with large Irish scallop shells to create your path to walk down.

If you are having seats for your guests at your beach wedding ceremony, add looped bear grass or beach grass with a sugar starfish and seashells. Loop the grass, making sure the loop is large enough to slip over the arm of the chair you are using and tie it with string. Glue gun your assortment of shells to cover the string.Add tiny seashells cascading down the grass. You can decorate every other row and this is a project you can easily do yourself. It can be done a week ahead, the grass will dry a bit, but will add to the natural look. Not costly, but a beautiful addition to your seashell wedding ceremony. You can also use raffia.

Maybe the two of you are flying somewhere tropical to get married on the beach alone. A simple way is to stand in a ring or heart of seashells to exchange your vows. It is very romantic and simplistic way to tie the knot. Etch your names in the sand and the date for pictures. Pack some assorted seashells to bring along with you and fill in with what you find native on the beach where you are getting married.

Another nice addition to your seashell beach ceremony is to do a shell blessing. The ritual of the Blessing Stones is a wonderful way to include everyone in the wedding by way of offering blessings and good wishes to the newlyweds. This ritual may be performed at the actual ceremony itself (before the blessing),or at the conclusion of the service. When the guests arrive at the ceremony, have someone hand out a Blessing Shell or Stone (they can be in a decorative bag) along with a note card with words printed on it such as: "My wish for you is..." or "May you be blessed with..." or "May God bless you with..." The guest completes the sentence with a wish for the bride and groom. The guest shares his or her wish with the bride and groom and tosses stone in the water. The wishes or blessings can be read aloud by the bride and groom during their ceremony, or during the reception.
